Altijd op een heel ontspannen wijze, die je enkel kan brengen op die manier als er overschot is.
Ik vind het ontzettend moedig om op een niet-solistisch instrument dat te doen waar jij in slaagt. Je blijft mensen verbazen en respect afdwingen. ABOUT OUR DVD "FROM BRUSSELS WITH LOVE":
This unique DVD deserves every praise from the author of this portal for its unique conception and featured material. Korneel Le Compte is one of the rare multifaceted bassists who stands firmly both in the modern orchestra bass field - as the principal bass of the La Monnaie Opera in Brussels - and the forefront of the period performance scene as the soloist pioneer in the Viennese Bass field. Yet all these qualifications are surpassed with this DVD where we also witness his ability to produce a top level documentary DVD featuring both the scholarly discussion of the modern period practice, and the Viennese Bass field - which is ilustrated with the top level performances of some of the most difficult and representative pieces from the repertoire.
Featured on this DVD is a cross-section of the repertoire performed with Korneel's ensembles Duo Sweet 17 and Ensemble PQBM from their recent concert activity - and commented with all the details one would wish to hear and see when studying the Viennese bass technique and period musical interpretation. How much effort and personal sacrifice was spent to prepare, record and assemble this lovely DVD package is probably known only to the authors of this DVD themselves. J'ai enfin reçu ton DVD hier matin à St.-Etienne. J'ai commencé à le visionner jusqu'à la moitié environ et je le trouve déjà très intéressant.J'aime beaucoup ta liberté de ton et la manière dont tu expliques votre démarche, faite elle aussi de liberté à l'égard de la musique.
L'équilibre musique/interview est bon également et on n'est pas lassé de l'un ou de l'autre.
On ne comprend pas pourquoi de temps en temps tu as une basse électrique dans les mains, mais j'aime bien le contraste que ça fait avec le sujet de ton talk sur la musique baroque.
En tous cas je trouve que ça vous représente bien.

Au Palazzo Trecchi Korneel Le Compte et Haruko Tanabe ont enchanté une audience formée de top luthiers et archetiers. Musiciens subtils et inspirés ils ont fait résonner la cour du Palais avec leurs cordes boyaux et sympathiques...
Votre concert s'inscrivait parfaitement dans l'ambiance: décontraction et raffinement, émotions qui passent par la sensibilité à tous les arts. L'acceuil du public a été très bon et j'ai admiré comment au lieu de jouer plus fort pour se faire entendre vous avez au contraire joué très pianissimo, et chacun a fait silence et tendu l'oreille. Magnifique.

I got your CD yesterday. I listened. I was very impressed. I listened to it today again and i wrote a review in superlatives, the way i haven't done in a long time. I don't know what you did in the recording i.e. - how "rough" or not it was, but it was simply the way i would have done it myself if i could have. All you mentioned in your side pamphlets was clearly audible to me ! Please relate my best regards to Haruko on her contribution as well. Bravo to you both - you have my strongest applause !

Although this listing already contains a number of high quality recordings demonstrating top levels of artistry and virtuosity, I was particularly happy to review this CD, as it brings this rare feel of chamber intimacy through very clean, yet also very musical playing - a feat that is often most difficult to achieve. This recording is also unique in the sense that all pieces are period, yet rearranged in some way to mimic the period style. The two Ariosti sonatas were most likely not composed for the Viennese bass, and the Sperger sonata (originally intended for Viennese bass) does not feature Viola d'Amore in the original. Yet, the overall effect is very honest, enlightening and pleasing - in the aesthetic way that I envision would have been truly enjoyed in the 18th century. The venue that produced the CD is called "Rough Records", implying that the straight recording takes that keep the spirit of the interpretation are preferred to those full of computer edits, that are all too common in modern productions. Yet I believe a better term would be "Nice Records" as the effect is anything but "rough". Moreover, the overall production and sound quality are so good that I would openly recommend this recording to the general music public in need of relaxed listening - the exact type for which the featured compositions were conceived at the period. This CD is perfectly suitable for all commercial broadcasts, but also for playing in public spaces where some calm may be desired. To conclude, this is an excellent recording featuring a very transparent sound of both instruments at its best. Viola d'Amore color may on occasion be perceived as even brighter of the regular viola, and the bass in Ariosti appears to have been played often in the 8 foot range that can not overpower the viola d'amore timbre. Korneel and Haruko play superbly here, and not only to satisfy some imaginary "period" standard, but for us today to enjoy. Bravo and Congratulations!

J'écoute très souvent mon CD. Moi, j'adore Sweet 17. J'aime le son des deux instruments : pas trop aigu, bien grave et sonore et parfois un peu mat et couleur ocre. Par moments certains sons arrivent comme des gouttes et se posent sur un pont solide avant de rebondir et de danser dessus. J'aime beaucoup le passage où la contrebasse reprend en boucle une base à la fois lancinante et enjouée. J'adore encore l'art avec lequel vos deux voix se mêlent et se portent, se retiennent, se lâchent et se rattrapent. La complicité est évidente et c'est bon de l'entendre et de se laisser porter, de filer au gré des sons.
J'adore toujours autant flotter dans ma maison en écoutant glisser les gouttes musicales de mon cher CD. Haruko et toi vous êtes des génies, des interprètes extraordinaires, parce que vous savez trouver les couleurs, les accents qui émeuvent, qui sont intimes, qui sont familiers, qui sont étranges, qui sont drôles et tristes est aussi mélancoliques, comme je les aime. Parce que c'est doux, c'est feutré, et parce que ça scintille...(Je te dis que tu rayonnes).

I must admit that i was very pleasantly surprised when i got the "Duo Sweet 17" latest CD "Alive". Although I have heard some Sperger and other Viennese bass chamber compositions over the years, this one has indeed hit the right "vibe" from the onset. Everything was nice and enlightened - exactly as i would have hoped it to be in the 18th century. Yes - this is the Viennese bass CD that one can listen to for the sake of the music and not for the sake of "proper historic bass set-up". If you have a chance, please try to get it !
